Rundle Heights Edmonton Real Estate

The neighbourhood of Rundle Heights is found in north east Edmonton. It overlooks the North Saskatchewan River Valley. A Dutch immigrant named Jacob Prins arrived in Canada in 1927, and shortly thereafter bought a farm in the area that is now Rundle Heights. This farm included one of the largest coal mines in the Edmonton area. The farm grew to be 400 acres in size. In 1956, after the Prins family attempted strip mining coal near the river and were unsuccessful, the City of Edmonton bought the strip mine site and turned it into the Beverly Dump. In 1966, the Prin’s farm stopped production and the majority of the land was then subdivided into what is now the Rundle Heights neighbourhood. When the Beverly Dump reached the end of its useful life, it was reclaimed for parkland, and is now the Rundle Park and Rundle Golf Course. There are two neighbourhood schools in Rundle Heights: the Edmonton Public School System operates the Rundle Heights Elementary School, and the Edmonton Catholic School System operates the St. Jerome Catholic Elementary School.
