The neighbourhood of Idylwylde is located in south east Edmonton. A little more than half of the homes were built between 1946 and 1960, according to the 2001 federal census. During that time period, a total of 56.1% of the homes in the neighbourhood were built. Another 23.5% was built during the 1960s and 1970s, with another 11% built during the late 1990s. Single-family homes are the most common type of home in Idylwylde, totalling 56% of all the homes in the neighbourhood. Another 39% is comprised of apartments and apartment-style condominiums, and the last 4% is comprised of duplexes. A total of 56% of the homes in Idylwylde are owner-occupied. The neighbourhood has two schools: Idylwylde Elementary School and L’Academie Vimy Ridge Academy.
